Oldman River (AB) - Upper III

A technical class II+/III run depending on flows. Expect small ledges, waves, and holes as you progress through multiple short canyons. Past the confluence with the Livingston there are a few larger rapids. Above the Livingston there are a few tight turns where logs may be a potential danger.

Run Information


Head south of Calgary and take Highway 22 to Secondary Road 517 after you drive over the Oldman River. Head west on 517 until you reach Highway 940. Turn right (North) and travel aprox 5km. Take road to the right and find a spot near the river.

Put In

From the 940/517 Junction head North fpr 11.5km to the Oldman River Recreation Site road. Turn left and travel 9km until you see the river and a bridge on your left.

Flow Information

Run is usually available during runoff and quickly dries up unless there is a healthy amount of snow. Expect the run to be available late May and Early June. Low is 20 CMS and High is 90 CMS.
